When it is empty it sends a signal to the chip. Unless you use a chip resetter, refilling won't work. Anyway, refilling is a dangerous practice. It may work a few times but the one time it fails will cost you more than anything you saved. Look at for details. Using new compatible cartridges is a good way to save money. Someone I know brought their Canon printer to the authorized Canon repair center. When they picked it up, the tech wanted to demonstrate that it worked but it was out of ink. He put in new cartridges and the person noticed they were NOT Canon! Are you certain you did not accidentally touch the gold areas (printer points) as this can put oils and dirt or residue on the cartridge.
