How much does a school district in Texas earn per student enrolled?
Q. I looked around on TEA's website and couldn't find what I was looking for. Where can I find out how much a school in Texas receives per student that is enrolled. Example: Let's say there are 50 students in a school. How much does the school district receive for each one of those students? If I could get a URL link to that page that would be great. Thanks.

A. Schools are not funded per student. They are funded by the people in the school district depending on their budget.

Why is it important for a school district to have a district website?
Q. I am doing brainstorming on this question for work and I figured I would seek your assistance. Why would a school district want to have a website? What should community members be able to find on a school district website? I appreciate your thoughts. Thanks.

A. A school website is a means of communication with the community, parents and students. School calendars and procedures are spelled out. The website provides knowledge about all school personnel and provides a means of contact. Very often teachers can use the website to give course outlines, class calendars and homework assignments. The assignments are particularly useful for students who are absent. The school district, school amd individual teachers can give and receive feedback about their goals and objectives./

What was the most effective thing you did to get your school district to accommodate your gifted child?
Q. I've got the IQ test in hand and further testing is in progress per the school district's request. But it seems like every parent of a gifted child meets resistance from public schools and either fights them or gives up on public schools. In contrast, parents of children with mental retardation (DSM-IV-TR diagnostic term) don't seem to have quite as much trouble. If you chose to fight with public schools on behalf of your gifted child, what was your most effective tactic?

A. As someone who both has a disability (blindness) and who has spent years working with students with disabilities, I have to disagree. In the majority of school systems, "special ed" is given little more than lip service--and many of the parents have an unending struggle to get even a minimum of accomodations. Not to minimize your problem--its quite real (I went down that road as a child myslelf). My suggestion is threefold--and with specific reasons for each suggestion: First, to the extent you can do so without a big fight, have your child put in advanced classes, etc. The reason for this is obvious--it maximises educational opportunities. Second--DON'T make a major issue of this--at least not in front of your child. Its better--for… [cont.]
